Grimsby Community Energy ready to Illuminate CATCH and YMCA Humber with Solar Power.

Grimsby Community Energy are proud to announce they are near to completion of their 4th share offer in which the general public, local businesses and funders have invested their money to finance solar projects across North East Lincolnshire.

Grimsby Community Energy are ready to install state-of-the-art solar panels at four key buildings at CATCH, an engineering apprenticeship training centre at Stallingborough and YMCA Humber’s 1 Orwell Street, set to commence on Monday 6 November 2023.

The installation of solar panels will contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint and energy costs of these facilities, making them more environmentally friendly and financially sustainable.

The four buildings at CATCH selected for this transformative project are the Technical Training Centre, The Scaffold building, CATCH Skills and the main reception which will generate a whopping 246 Mega Watt Hours per year, which equates to 55 tonnes of CO2 saved per year!

David Talbot, Chief Executive Officer at CATCH said “We are delighted that work will start in the next month on the solar PV installations on our buildings at CATCH.  As we train the tradespeople of the future, it is only right to do this in facilities that are moving towards net zero.”

In addition, YMCA Humber’s 1 Orwell Street’s panels alongside their panels at 21 Freeman Street will generate 88 Mega Watt Hours per year and will help save 25 tonnes of CO2 per year!

Rob Baty from YMCA Humber said “we are happy to be continuing our journey towards net zero, whilst supporting some of the most vulnerable people in North East Lincolnshire”.

These installations mark a pivotal moment in the journey towards a cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient North East Lincolnshire.

Vicky Dunn, Managing Director of Grimsby Community Energy replied “ I am amazed and overjoyed that we have been able to secure enough support to start the project. However, we are still looking for investment and the share offer will remain open until Tuesday 5 December, we urge anyone thinking about investing or finding out more to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Members of the media and the public will be invited to attend an event once installation is completed. The event will feature key stakeholders, including Grimsby Community Energy’s members who have invested their own money to help bring the project to fruition.
